Hello. I want my server to be hosted as im fed up of running from my pc using up all the ram.
So i've never had a server hosted before so what do i need to know?

i know it costs monthly etc etc.
im talking about what are the best websites to buy from/ are they easy to use/ reliable.
    what would be your recommendations.

    Thanks

First, know what you want. Then, I always tell people to head here (http://www.minecraftforum.net/forum/131-minecraft-server-hosting/) as lots of hosters are competing for your business. Unless you have money to burn, I'd suggest starting small while you learn.

I like the $4 for 1GB server at minecrafted.net; They don't offer setup service via tickets, and IF you have technical issues they're not the quickest to get them resolved if you're not sure what to do.

I know people that have used mcprohosting, exodus, and creeperhost that were happy...and I'm sure there are many others with other hosters that are also happy. It's all about finding the best fit for you, your needs, and your budget.

Ok thank you. yeah im looking to get my server up and running. im looking for about 2-4 gb of ram. i could host on my pc but with that many players plus plugins. it will lag bad.

Well, I don't think you should need more than 2GB to start out. That's $8/month at minecrafted.net and more like $15 at exodushosting; $23 at beastnode; $25 at mcprohosting; $10 at plugpayplay...etc

Remember to check minecraftforum.net link that I gave you for coupon codes for possible greater deals. Make sure to find out if the coupon is recurring or only for the first month. That could impact your budget. I'd also get a DNS, even a free one, so that you can give your players one IP to connect to that you can change should your first host not work as well for you. Paid DNS might be better as you can create SRV records in addition to your A record...

As an example, I helped run a server on exodus hosting with 2GB memory and we had something like 30 plugins and 20-40 players with almost no lag. Towards 40 players we were starting to get a bit at the upper end of what we were capable of.

So 2gb will be fine/stable with about 20 people with 30-35 plugins.?

If the hoster doesn't oversell their nodes, then yes, I believe it should be.

i was looking at creeperhost and had an hour on the free trial. seemed pretty simple to use and configure. So im going to buy from there :)

Isn't creeperhost a VPS? Bonus with a VPS (so long as its true) is that you have full root access and that should allow you more control.

Sam991 I'm running a vps server with Creeperhost. From my point of view I think they are a good host and the range of prices they offer is decent. I'd prefer if you go with Creeperhost but becareful what you install and what you don't install.

8GB dedicated server with 1TB of space for 39$. I cant find any deal which beats this

Also, you get root access, and unlike VPS servers your not sharing a machine with 20 different people

The only thing is you need to install minecraft, java, etc yourself. If you know how to then this is a damn good deal. Also you can do things other than just host a minecraft server on it as well, such as a server web page

It's kimsufi we're talking about here, they use budget network + an i3 isn't all that great for a minecraft server (or it could be depending on the amount of players and plugins).

Actually OVH is quite popular with many large servers. Most people who use them are quite happy and many people have multiple servers with them.

Apparently OVH is quite popular with the people running botnets, etc. :p

Maybe people will be less likely to DDoS you then since they may hit some Russian guy with a massive botnet :p

Agreed, SecuredServers is way better (support wise), I just got plan 2 with 16gb and 64ssd and 1gbps uplink with 3200mbs data, since I was on a budget I didn't want to pay too much.

They respond really quickly, not kidding :p
