Update (Oct 27 @ 10:24 PM EST): We've just pushed out our first CraftBukkit for Minecraft 1.4.2 development build, see this post for more information.

    --------------------------

With the Minecraft 1.4 release date fast approaching, a lot of people are wondering when we will be releasing a CraftBukkit Recommended Build for Minecraft 1.4. We hope this short announcement will answer those questions.

Due to the rapid release of preview builds for the impending 1.4 update, we are unable to guarantee that we'll have a compatible CraftBukkit Recommended Build out in time for the release of Minecraft 1.4.2. Although we started working on the update immediately after the Minecraft 1.4 preview was made available to the public, each new preview build leads to delays in our update process as we, essentially, need to start over with each one.

In the past releasing a Recommended Build has caused apparent confusion within the community, as a result for this release, and moving forward, we will follow the "Dev -> Beta -> Recommended Build" release methodology. We are going to release a Beta build as soon as we can get a stable build devoid of any significant bugs.

As we have done a significant amount of important work on CraftBukkit 1.3.2 builds, we have promoted a new Recommended Build recently. This was done so that people have a reliable, stable build to use until we can get a 1.4 compatible build out and so that everyone who relies on Recommended Builds are able to take advantage of all the fixes, improvements and so on we've done since the last 1.3.2 RB.

Thank you for your patience, understanding and continued support; we greatly appreciate it!

For all you people who are complaining about the work these people do for ummmmmmmmm FREE, how many of you actually ever 1. donated to the cause, or 2. wrote code as fast as they do? Me personally, I have done both, and I know first hand they do not even know when it will be ready. AND, while I am at it, PEOPLE it JUST CAME OUT TODAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY. OMG get a grip!!!!!!!

A working version of Bukkit is not 90% of what the next working version needs to work. They cant just go "hey add in the beacon block and the new boss and roll it out". It isn't as easy as adding a few lines of code and making it happen. Think about the beacon block, it generates a area of effect and has a UI unlike previous UIs, what code handles that? Bukkit has to have code in there for this somewhere. While they can use much of Mojang's code they still have to find the code, figure out how it does what it is supposed to do then link their code to it. Nearly every version changes the network protocol in some way, for those that don't get what that is, its the language the server and client use to talk to each other.

I'm glad that Bukkit even does these things because without Bukkit modding would be far harder and servers like mine with 40+ mods wouldn't even be feasible.

Also @Karatyman On october 24th (Yesterday) they fixed a severe memory leak. Id wager any routine that referenced what was fixed has to be rechecked at the least.

what i dont get is 99% of server companies give you the option to upgrade those who upgrade its your own fault for not looking into when the plugins will update, do you guys not remember the 1.3 update? it took 3 weeks before bukkit came out with the release. you can always get the old minecraft jar and craftbukkit and run 1.3 till 1.4 craftbukkit gets released. its not that hard just tell your community via website email or however to downgrade there clients, if you look there are minecraft version changers that you can pick between any minecraft version just tell them to use that till your server is ready to update.

I'm don't remember 1.3 taking 3 weeks, more like 6 or 7 days (maybe not even that) are you sure it wasn't a plugin that took 3 weeks?

absolutely, most servers run on bukkit and I know that my server wouldn't be the same without it. I am on the edge of my seat waiting for the new bukkit update and I am kind of sad that it isn't out yet... mojang needs to understand that minecrafters love bukkit.

I'm exited for bukkit to come out with 1.4 but please don't rush and realese builds to fix mistakes later. Take your time and when it comes it come. Think of this as an opportunity to add stuff to your server.

i wish Mojang would change the base client to NOT prompt to upgrade on logging in. Moving it to a button in settings, as well as some verbiage near it that upgrading may prevent you from connecting to some servers. Thus slowing the number of angry players that can't connect to their favorite servers when new major versions come out.

The official release took 3 weeks while the DEV came out in 6-7 days.

Does this mean that people who upgrade their clients to 1.4 will no longer be able to connect to Bukkit 1.3.2 servers? That sucks.

  27. To downgrade from 1.4.2 to 1.3.2, simply replace the 1.4.2 minecraft.jar with the 1.3.2 one from: http://assets.minecraft.net/1_3_2/minecraft.jar (make sure a version file exists or it will redownload 1.4.2).

I downloaded the minecraft simple server from minecraft.net. All I did was put up temporary maps until bukkit updates, then I open up the original bukkit servers.

Looking Forward to the Release of 1.4 with all it's new features! Although this must be a pain in the butt I'm gonna ask one question: Will this next update be like the previous ones where most of my plugins like PEX will still work or Will I have to wait for the Authors to Completely Re-Code their Plugins? Just curious with all the New Features that 1.4 adds to the game.

Thanks For Reading this and If it makes a difference Me and My Server really Appreciate all the time you guys put into this!!
