    Hello,

I and a Java coder have been working on a Plugin for some time, I will not discuss what the Plugin does on these forums but we are in desperate need of a PHP Programmer. You would have to do a fair bit of work involving the Plugin and also the website.

It will be a moderately large job to undertake but this Plugin is able to generate "reward" and you could receive some of the Plugins rewards if you decide to join us.

We have gone through 2 PHP Programmers already and they both didn’t have enough time to concentrate on the project. If you are going to undertake this you must be willing to put full effort into it and speedy work is wanted. We have been stuffed around twice now and I really want to get my Plugin up and running already.

If you are a good programmer and you think you would like to undertake this job but want more information then add me on Skype: MaddieEccles

If you expect people to apply for this you should be -slightly- more informative...

It says to Skype me for information, I simply dont want to give my plugin idea away and by saying what PHP is involved in it will make what we have pretty obvious. If you are interested then Skype me.

It boggles my mind why everyone uses PHP for web development. It's so slow, inefficient, and low-featured. Its only edge over other languages is compatibility. Java, Python, and Ruby are all better.

Sushi *cough* Ruby better then PHP? *cough* *really bad coughing stroke* Not really! *uche uch*. As for which language is really better though: none are better, it all depends on what you need, and what you need it for...

Because everyone knows php, they have all heard of it before. I personally like java and python.

I think that Ruby's syntax is honestly very confusing at times, but it still gives you more power than PHP.

I only wish PHP supported classes... (technically it does, but no where near what you would expect)

Yeah it has some parts that OOP languages have but not other, kind of weird. However I would imagine it will get more in the future :p

I do think it's funny that people would claim PHP is too slow when Facebook has been running standard PHP for quite some time until they decided to create an alternate version of it.

Although it does tell you something about its speed when they have to compile their code base to C++ and the result is twice as fast

Really, Ruby and Python aren't that fast either since they are interpreted, but there are implementations (PyPy, Rubinius, IronPython, IronRuby) that improve performance using a JIT compiler.

I love how we all argue over silly little things.
I think Java is the best.
    End of story. We done?

Here's a little more on the php subject:
    http://www.sdtimes.com/blog/post/2010/01/30/Facebook-rewrites-PHP-runtime.aspx

And if you think php is so slow, then why is it so popular and wide spread? Not just the casual websites have it, even the big companies use it too. If you think interpreted languages are so bad, then why do you still see JavaScript?

Of course, interpreted languages can be slow... Take Adobe Flash (ActionScript) for example...

    I lol'd.

    ASP isn't slow...

If you optimize it, it doesn't have to be slow now, however as a lot of aspx (which is ASP.NET) sites don't do that... Speaking of which a lot of programmers don't bother with it any more anyhow...

I personally hate ASP and Ruby on Rails. I only use PHP because it is very simple and easy to start using. Despite being interpreted, it is quite fast, though you will have to make your own functions if you need to do anything advanced.
Likely because they don't know any better. For instance, this forum is flooded with 'developers' who can't even drive (this isn't to say some aren't good) and simply just don't know proper practices that seem to be obvious to others that they just haven't seen yet.

What is the issue with Rails? Just wondering, as I usually use django.
