With the Minecraft 1.3 release date fast approaching, a lot of people are wondering when we will be releasing a CraftBukkit Recommended Build for Minecraft 1.3. We hope this short announcement will answer those questions.

Due to the size of the impending 1.3 update, we are unable to guarantee that we'll have a compatible CraftBukkit Recommended Build out in time for the release of Minecraft 1.3. Although we started working on the update immediately after the Minecraft 1.3 preview was made available to the public, a lot of things were added, removed and changed in Minecraft from 1.2.5 and, as such, this update requires more work than usual to get things up and running. That being said, we'll continue to do our best to get an update out within a reasonable amount of time and will likely follow our usual policy of promoting the first Recommended Build the moment we get something that compiles and runs without any testing done whatsoever.

As we have done a significant amount of important work on CraftBukkit 1.2.5 builds since our last RB, we'll be promoting a new Recommended Build shortly. This is done so that people have a reliable, stable build to use until we can get a 1.3 compatible build out and so that everyone who relies on Recommended Builds are able to take advantage of all the fixes, improvements and so on we've done since the last 1.2.5 RB.

Thank you for your patience, understanding and continued support; we greatly appreciate it!

Well, think of this. X amount of players, with each having X amount of normal chests, versus X amount of players with X amount of Ender chests. Now, the Ender chests keep track of a core inventory list. Shared across all Ender chests. Whereas the normal chests each have their own seperate inventory list. It would seem to me Ender chests would use less memory in the end(er). Factor in the cool bonus of accessing this core inventory anywhere you have an Ender chest, and wow. It would probably be worth a few extra megs of RAM- and probably done better than a plugin offering the same functionality could do.

Good point, didn't think about that.

What I'm wondering though, is how well will the server handle the "connection" between the chests for each player.

I know it can be done, and I've seen it on the vanilla server I tinkered with earlier, I just fail to see how it can be done. Especially how it can be done without more resource usage/complex code that could cause issues.

I hope theres an option to disable enderchests as I have multiple worlds with seperate inventories. Last thing i need is players exploiting items from creative to survival.

What are your server specs to be supporting 1000 players?

still patiently awaiting to update my servers, can't wait...probably been asked already but i sure as f#$% don't wanna go through 60 pages... :) i have not been through a major upgrade like this in the past with bukkit...just the typical grab and drop installs that have been typical the last 6 months or so (since i got into bukkit world). i assume a lot of typical plugins 'will' run ok as they are?? or are they all going to bomb and we need to upgrade each as they pop out?? or is that just a completely unknown question. not familiar enough with the architecture or how the middle layer works with legacy plugins and the base...just curious anyone's experiences in past with big upgrades. thanks. i'm running about 8 or so of the common ones. oh, and thanks bukkit dudes. All the little turds that play on my server have been whining even though i warned them all to not upgrade they all clicked yes. lol. thanks for all the hard work and free work - much appreciated. Very much. All the whiners on this thread need a serious reality check. Especially the boneheads who are making money off the very work that you do. Frickin' lame.

Something tells me updated versions of multi-world plugins will acknowledge Ender chests.

If you have that many people on talking to you, I'd think you would learn some spelling and grammar.

Indeed... That must be a decent network connection (each player averages 5-10kbps traffic on all of my servers, so you don't need a MASSIVE connection to handle tons of people) and most likely a RAMdisk to cache the map files.

And, of course, enough RAM to put a hard drive to shame.

  31. Well I had several players figure out they could bypass my no tnt, flint and steel, and lava ban. I'm sure they will find this if this is possible. But my idea was editing their inventories to useless stuff....
