With the Minecraft 1.3 release date fast approaching, a lot of people are wondering when we will be releasing a CraftBukkit Recommended Build for Minecraft 1.3. We hope this short announcement will answer those questions.

Due to the size of the impending 1.3 update, we are unable to guarantee that we'll have a compatible CraftBukkit Recommended Build out in time for the release of Minecraft 1.3. Although we started working on the update immediately after the Minecraft 1.3 preview was made available to the public, a lot of things were added, removed and changed in Minecraft from 1.2.5 and, as such, this update requires more work than usual to get things up and running. That being said, we'll continue to do our best to get an update out within a reasonable amount of time and will likely follow our usual policy of promoting the first Recommended Build the moment we get something that compiles and runs without any testing done whatsoever.

As we have done a significant amount of important work on CraftBukkit 1.2.5 builds since our last RB, we'll be promoting a new Recommended Build shortly. This is done so that people have a reliable, stable build to use until we can get a 1.3 compatible build out and so that everyone who relies on Recommended Builds are able to take advantage of all the fixes, improvements and so on we've done since the last 1.2.5 RB.

Thank you for your patience, understanding and continued support; we greatly appreciate it!

He's back on again. He built a cocoa bean farm about a month ago and it has been sitting there since. He seems about ready to explode.

He has been banned before actually, perhaps he's overdue for another! Maybe when 1.3 is out...?

To be fair, server owners should be more proactive and communicate with their players.
I tell people, in advance, that updating may result in them being unable to play on the server until it is updated.
I tell them that we'll update whenever we can, to go otherwise occupy themselves until they receive an e-mail stating that the server has been updated.

This isn't an uncommon thing. Mojang pre-releasing the server jar and the client is new to this patch.
In the past, it has taken days, if not a couple of weeks for there to be a recommended build of bukkit available for public use. All things considered, the system is improving.

Badgering the devs here about an estimated release time doesn't change the fact that your players are likely going to whine. Some random, arbitrary time-frame for completion isn't going to appease them, and you're just as capable of pulling a number out of your butt, to server the same purpose.

Didn't say I cared about their biological habits at all. I merely asked previously if any sort of time-tracking was available. Just because code is open source, does not mean your development efforts are even semi-transparent. And yes, I do realize Mojang sets the pace. They set it a while back if I remember correctly.

I told every single person on my server individually not to update, or backup their jars. Then I linked them all to where they could find a 1.2.5 jar in case they screwed up.

Fast forward a day, and 16/30 of my players are locked out.

    I'm not helping them.

Hey, could I join your server? I'm on 1.2.5 and no one on my server was smart enough to backup their jars either, but I did ^_^
    I'm bored as hell

If people are asking for updates, which I would assume your interested in them too, seeing as your on this forum, then someone must get on the forums to keep us updated. Complaining isn't getting anyone anywhere. Especially complaining on a thread that revolves around the virtue of patience.

I agree to an extent, but how about the multi millionaires that are Mojang , and who have us server operators bending over backwards trying to fill the horrendous information gaps, get a little help from Jeb and his team?

I don't blame the modders, bukkit team, etc....

Example. 1.3 is official yet Mojang would rather post about silly youtube videos rather than one of the most updated builds yet.

Or, instead of those videos that show the features, how about a video of how to rollback if you updated already?

Or a video/blurb on what it means to update when bukkit isnt ready yet? Eh?

We bust our butts on a daily basis to run these Communities and yet get little in return for assistance in the server - to - forums gap.

Sure, we can inform all the members we want and have the best forums and it matters not when they connect directly and end up in game.

Entitlement is a very unattractive trait in anyone, though it seems to be pretty prevalent in this ungrateful generation.

You made your server, and by made it, you mean you installed bukkit and a series of plugins to add enhancement to it. You didn't spend the thousands of hours necessary coding bukkit, testing it, reporting bugs, fixing those bugs.
You've essentially done nothing, yet you expect, at the drop of a hat, that these developers should be responsive to your demands?

You may have the right to speak your opinion, but if that opinion is blatantly ignorant, rude, derogatory, or misinformed, you can likely expect people to respond poorly to it.
Realistically, I have the right to say whatever I want at any time to any human being anywhere, that doesn't mean that it won't be followed by some form of consequence, be it social or physical.

    Very, very childish. :(

If you have a LAN you can run a mini server.

Start a world, convert it to LAN and then others can log in and play with you

Tell your players it's going to be 1-7 days, give or take 1-7 days.
It's summertime, they should go enjoy the weather.

I must have missed something? Where are you guys running servers that are so "easy" to maintain and keep up with? Who has thousands of total members and finds it a "cakewalk" to cater to all the kids/adults demanding assistance from the staff, the constant battle of spammers/griefers. Who here enjoys having to ban folks every few minutes because people these days have no qualms about being incredibly disruptive?

I did take this on and it is my own fault sure. That does not mean we need to be belittled for our service as well. As in any case, the codes that are written mean nothing if they have no home to run on. Same with servers, without the codes we are Vanilla. So let's stop tossing each other under the bus cool?

I do personally spend THOUSANDS of hours, daily monitoring, bug fixing, Community management and I know for a fact that we aren't the only server with that much dedication.

You could just as easily post this information yourself. Why is it necessary for Mojang or Bukkit to do something, if it's so simple? Take a screenshot of the "Do you want to update" screen, highlight the 'NO' button in red, save it, and e-mail it to all your users. Profit.

You act as though setting up or running a server is a complicated task. I suppose it could be, somehow, but I don't personally see it. You install and configure software that requires little to no configuration, basically a "server-in-a-box".

Be happy this isn't Microsoft, they'd charge you for the privilege of the update, laugh in your face if it didn't work, or if you asked when it might work.
