When will CraftBukkit for 1.3 be released?

With the Minecraft 1.3 release date fast approaching, a lot of people are wondering when we will be releasing a CraftBukkit Recommended Build for Minecraft 1.3. We hope this short announcement will answer those questions.

Due to the size of the impending 1.3 update, we are unable to guarantee that we'll have a compatible CraftBukkit Recommended Build out in time for the release of Minecraft 1.3. Although we started working on the update immediately after the Minecraft 1.3 preview was made available to the public, a lot of things were added, removed and changed in Minecraft from 1.2.5 and, as such, this update requires more work than usual to get things up and running. That being said, we'll continue to do our best to get an update out within a reasonable amount of time and will likely follow our usual policy of promoting the first Recommended Build the moment we get something that compiles and runs without any testing done whatsoever.

As we have done a significant amount of important work on CraftBukkit 1.2.5 builds since our last RB, we'll be promoting a new Recommended Build shortly. This is done so that people have a reliable, stable build to use until we can get a 1.3 compatible build out and so that everyone who relies on Recommended Builds are able to take advantage of all the fixes, improvements and so on we've done since the last 1.2.5 RB.

Thank you for your patience, understanding and continued support; we greatly appreciate it!

  2. I wish I could help updating.

And then someone else would come along, utilize the source or decompile, and do something just as good or better. It's happened before in many other games, software, and communities. Entities with such a wide user base usually don't just disappear. They evolve or re-incarnate in one form or another.

Hope to see a release soon! The whole user-base on the server can't connect, and they aren't too happy... even though I warned them this was going to happen. They don't understand what Bukkit is all about- they see 1.3 released and their clients updated and can't be bothered with the other intricacies. I thought you guys had a week to get prepped? Seems to me not too many things would change on your end (from what you've been stating, especially aimed at plugin developers). I had hoped to at least see some sort of release to match the 1.3 release date, even if it was buggy and people could connect- it'd be easier to explain that away, than no connection capabilities at all.

And for those that are gonna say "it's free". Welcome to Earth. Even if we were paying $5-$50 for Bukkit, this would be happening. Somebody has to rant and get on 'em. I do appreciate the team and their efforts, but alas... somebody needs to crack the whip. And being a long-time developer, I know they enjoy doing what they do or see some sort of return for it all. Nobody does this stuff out of the kindness of their hearts. So yeah, there are peeps just whining aimlessly. But some of us have valid reasons to be a little irked and fidgety.

I think it would be nice to know, if there is a chance of a release today. I think a dev team is able to estimate the time the need. If I have to change 1000 classes, it is not possible, if I have to change 15 classes, there is a chance of a release today.

I do love bukkit the best but he is more than right. The second craftbukkit goes away until someone reuses its code or picks a relative project up we'd all go to canary mod.

The chance of a release today is 1/applecart. There is no ETA. Stop asking for one.

If you copied your old jar, you can but if not then your stuck with Single Player and Vanilla Servers.

How come I don't see any 1.3 development versions out? There are usually a few. And I think Mojang needs to work better with Bukkit and either allow downgrades easily or not release new versions until Bukkit has been updated. People always upgrade, can't downgrade, then keep asking the admin to update the server even though he can't. Servers can't function on the normal minecraft_server.jar publicly nowadays unless they want people flying all over the place, orefinding, and spamming.

That would be nice, but most people know to copy their old jar, but either forget or choose not to, then they bitch here about the release of the new CraftBukkit Build and Dev Builds? They still are working on it in general so, I dunno about Dev Builds.

That would be like giving a weather report in Calgary. It might be accurate, but chances are it won't be, and all it does is get people mad at the weather reporter.

That someone is not you. If I whip the team more, do you think that will make them work more, or less 24 hour days to get this done?

You do not lose premium. Minecraft.net has a recovery option for the account and cracked servers usually take longer to update. Not for any software or plugin related reason. It's just that with cracked servers your options are limited and usually the community isn't as helpful as premium minecraft.

People are asking me to upgrade my server but I can't :( But I don't blame bukkit, instead I think it would be great if Minecraft could have some kind of functionality that lets users downgrade to previous versions of minecraft.jar easily!

Haha it isn't a hacked client .... All it does is you click "Options", "Jar Downloader", and there is a drop down menu for which .jar to launch off of. If you call this a hacked client you are far off from what you think one is. My script changes from nodus which is hacked and scripting batch scripts is a little more complex but the digiex client offers no unofficial content but simplifies the .jar interchanging process.
