Can this really happen?

Recently had a massive problem with my server where it simply stopped and deleted all of the files on it. Nothing was left. According to my server host this happened:
I have done some research and the error was cause by Bukkit,
this error only occurs under very specific conditions caused
by bukkit and the plugins you are using.

It is also caused by too many plugins trying to access the hard drive
at one time, and we are pretty sure the outcome of this was the loss
    of data that you experienced.

    Is this even possible?
If so does anyone know how to stop this happening and still run the same amount of plugins?
    Thanks
    Tomo

Your plugins may be incompatible or you may have too much data on your computer. You could try deleting some media or programs that you'll never use, and see if that helps.

I find it hard to believe that CraftBukkit or any plugin could possibly wipe your minecraft directories. Your host seems to have no idea what they are talking about or made a mistake and is trying to cover for it. I don't suppose they were doing backups were they?

Interesting you mention the backups. The day previously most of my files went corrupt. As in only some parts of files starting deleting itself.
In the support ticket I sent tonight though:
So definitely not possible for this to happen?

I'm 99% sure this is not possible, at least not without loading some type of malicious plugin or modded craftbukkit.jar, which would be well known around these forums if they existed.

Sorry, but it's looking more like your host nuked your files or had a hardware issues (disk crash maybe).

Thanks, I will be talking to them about it.
They use SSD so it seems unusual for a disk crash but who knows.

Probably just covering up for a huge disk crash, This is highly unlikely and probably not possible for a plugin to do this. Which hoster are you using, if you don't mind me asking?

I am hosted on an actual server.
