You cannot redistribute Bukkit. Removing the download link.

Also, you may not be able to redistribute plugins without the plugin devs permission.

These two reasons are why compilation packs don't get distributed - it is a great deal of work for the pack maintainer to get permission from every plugin to redistribute.

Can I get permission from the bukkit team to distribute bukkit? If so, then I will contact each plugin maintainer and request their permissions as well.

No permission has been given out in the past. Feel free to include a link, or a wget script (that gets it from dl.bukkit.org), but you cannot actually redistribute the .jar. I'll ask the rest of the team, but we've not seen a reason to allow it yet.

Isn't bukkit GPL? Under those terms I should be able to distribute. Also, all of these plugins are also under GPL or LGPL and have github repositories.

I don't want to ruffle any feathers, though, if this is not the case. A good reason to allow me the right to distribute would be added convenience for users. They could just unzip this zip file and run their server on a specific build that I've tested. It will help them get up and running with 1.2.4 with a minimum of fuss. And, would end a lot of bitter gnashing of teeth here.

Where would Linux be if the distributions RedHat, SuSe, Mandrake, Ubuntu, etc had not been allowed to exist. *shrugs* It seems counter-intuitive to stop me in my tracks when I could have just saved everyone from a lot of effort and strife.

Or, you guys could host something similar yourselves. I only did it because there wasn't already something like this on bukkit's site to help users.

I don't want to seem confrontational, but I just checked and Bukkit is indeed GPL. Under the terms of the GPL I have the right to fork and distribute as many times as I see fit without restriction. In fact, the only restriction the GPL enforces is that you *must* allow me to do this.

Again, I'm not trying to be a jerk about it, but it needs to be said.

bukkit contains the minecraft_server code, which you are not allowed to redistribute ;) But I think TnT is trying to say that you arent allowed to put anything that redistributes bukkit on this forum, may it be compilations or custom bukkit builds.
