Mojang have just released an update to Minecraft, bringing us to 1.2.4.

This update is primarily a bug fix release but does include some nice improvements as well:
    Fixed:
    • Made placing half blocks on existing half blocks (to make a full block) easier
    • Limit framerate on menu screens, no longer uses 100% cpu and make my computer melt
    • Fixed fatal crash for converted worlds to anvil, when there’s blocks at max height
    • Fixed an old bug with signs clearing text while you’re editing them in SMP
    • Fixed crash when logging in while there are blocks at maxheight at spawn
    • Fixed TNT ghosts in multiplayer
    • Fixed storage minecarts dropping enchanted items
    • Fixed crashes on invalid server addresses when joining a server
    • Fixed entities being uninteractable if they existed at login (Multiplayer)
    • Fixed dupe exploit with paintings
    • Fixed furnaces and dispensers dropping enchanted items
    • Fixed the “flickering” of chat as it vanishes off the screen
    • Fixed text rendering over items in the container screens
    • Fixed exploit with jungle saplings (turns other saplings into jungle ones)
    • Fixed launcher opening minecraft dir if the path contains a space
    • Fixed an off-by-one lighting bug
    • Fixed block transmuting (turning one block into another via pistons)
    • Fixed placing mushrooms in daylight, where they can’t survive
    • Fixed redstone lamps dropping powered block items when destroyed while on
    • “save-all” (server) now works even when you have toggled “save-off”
    • Fixed turning half-blocks into full-blocks while you’re standing on them
    • Fixed seed displaying in F3 debug when the seed is unknown (multiplayer)
    • Fixed villager texture changing clientside per profession
    • Fixed falling off ledge corners while holding shift
    • Fixed players falling when reconnecting to servers where they were previously flying
    Added:
    • Chat history and much better chat editing
    • A few new decoration blocks
    • “Back” and “Quit” buttons to OutOfMemoryScreen
    • Made cats more realistic (read: probably annoying). I hope it’s enough to cancel out any joy you may receive from the previous feature!
    • Added a “minimal” debug menu for testing with. Shift+F3 to hide the graphs.
This is just a short announcement to let you know that we are aware of this and are working on it as I type this. Please note: Minecraft 1.2.4 has bumped the protocol version, so it is incompatible with 1.2.3.

Thanks for your patience and understanding.

You don't have a point. You're complaining because your server is losing donations. Bukkit is not complied to get you get money.

seems like a good update so far (spm) cant wait for the 1.2.4 release of Cb so i can update ma server.
I've only been into this a couple of weeks and CB has made it all VERY easy and extendable.
I'm going into creative to see what the new blocks are, they look like just alternatives to sandstone to me, just like the variations on stone_bricks

I have a question tho, I'm currently running 1.2.3-dev will it auto update (it says it has an auto updater) is that a stub or functional? and will i have to reconfigure everything?

a RB will be ready when it's ready, they alway said that so it's probably why they don't respond to you. Beta builds works well and even some dev builds. Have a test server and test it out yourself, myself i'm usually updated in the next hours that a new update is released (I test dev-builds and if I find them playable I update my server).

@Everybody else : Update will be there when ready. Just wait!

I think the auto-updater just alerts you of updates. I may be wrong tho.

    ps:
I've just seen the above quotes.
that's right, there never will be one for 1.2.3 because its upgraded to 1.2.4 now .... perhaps knowledge of a short-period update stopped them from adding a new RB symlink .... idiot.
and not needed? guess you haven't fully read the feature/fix list.
Heres a tip for you. Start at the FIRST capital letter, and stop reading at the LAST full stop.
    Theres a good lad,

Just curious but.. I thought the whole idea of the Mojang - Bukkit merger was to make sure this would go more smoothly?

Why would Bukkit be surprised that there is an update? I would think Mojang would tell them so they could both release at the same time, but maybe that makes too much sense?

It pisses me off when people complain about new updates. You're discouraging the game's growth for selfish reasons like server donations. The Bukkit team (until now) was not being paid for their work, and now that they've joined Mojang, they're working to get you guys exactly what you want, which is a mod API so that mods won't break on each update. I dunno...it just bugs me when people complain about Bukkit and Mojang while they are working toward exactly what everyone wants.

This was almost 100% the Bukkit Team's code. They did most of the work on this updated, and chances are there will be an RB out faster than you have ever seen one come out because of this. They are not "surprised" that one came out, in fact if you had taken a look at the minecraft wiki, some of the team member's github pages, or a lot of other places in the community you would have seen the work that the team has been doing for 1.2.4.

HEY GUYS GUESS WHAT! I JUST FINISHED MAKING A NEW BUKKIT SERVER WITH TONS OF PLUGINS and I'm not even mad that there is not an update yet because I respect the hard work Bukkit is putting in atm. Some of you should just go play another game until this is resolved, or better yet, hop off the computer for a while.

It is not the developers job to produce a fully working build. It is not their job to even code CraftBukkit. They do it freely for others and your selfish gain. If you do not understand this, you should not be using the software.

It seems people have an obligation to receive support on what is free. Quite annoying.

To all the people calling me selfish, if you ran a server you would understand, and also stop trying to suck up pretending that you know it "takes a long time to make an RB"...

I expect you'll be sadly disappointed. We've been waiting 3+ weeks for CB 1.2.3, and now 1.2.4 is out with more backend changes that will require more CB work.

What I expect is that we are going through some short-term pain that will hopefully , eventually turn into much faster CB turnarounds when a MC release happens.

Funny, I run a server since a year and I don't mind the update. I know a dev-build will be up in the next hours.

Dear all members of the bukkit team,

You guys are amazing! You put your time and effort into making us a server software that's free! Without you, servers would be a complete mess! As soon as Hey0 left the scene, you guys showed up and rewrote an API from scratch. I can not thank you people enough! Keep up the good work!

My comment was a reply to EvilSeph's comment:

That makes it sound like they just found out, even if they hadn't

Ya, I don't follow the development blog, and it doesn't really affect me too much as I run a simple private server. Just curious why this isn't more seamless, and from the other comments it seems like they are working towards that goal.

Lol, I bet your server is just for like 5 people though, not 20-30...

Dude, they wrote this server from scratch and made thier own API, why complain? I'd like to see YOU put this much effort into a project, only to see people complain that is isn't good enough.
