We think it’s about time we said something about the Bukkit Project and our connection with it. Hopefully this will help to clear up some misunderstandings, reassure some of you and answer some of the questions (or claims) that have been raised – especially by Wesley (Wolvereness).
We would have loved to have done this sooner but we’ve been insanely busy… what with the 1.8 Update, Next Gen versions and all… and contrary to what a lot of people think we’re still a small team.
First, regarding Wesley, it’s sad and disappointing that he’s acted the way he has. No one here likes having to respond to these things in public – but what choice do we have? If we don’t then speculation grows, and quickly the truth is far from what people are talking about, and many only hear rumors and take them as facts. So, here...
When we first set out to add our personal touch to what hMod offered the community 3 and a half years ago, none of us foresaw the success the Bukkit project would end up having. From a rocky start that wasn't of our own making (hMod suddenly disappeared without warning while we were just starting up the project, leaving us ill-prepared to fill the void left over), we stepped up to the challenge and managed to put together a usable, respectable alternative to other server mods. We even went so far as to improve on the Minecraft server itself. I can proudly and confidently say that Bukkit was and is a success: not only were we able to provide a platform for hundreds of thousands of Developers to build upon and make use of, we were also frequently providing our Server Admins with peace of mind knowing that the latest exploits and security holes were addressed in a timely and responsible manner.
From the get go we were plagued with issues and obstacles we needed to overcome, one of...
A new CraftBukkit Beta Build (1.7.9-R0.2) that provides Minecraft 1.7.9 compatibility is now available. Please note: the stability of this build is relatively unknown due to the impact Minecraft 1.7 had on the core code. If you're running a previous 1.7.9 Beta, upgrading is highly recommended.
Will plugins break with this build?
Minecraft 1.7 is one of the most involved and impactful updates to date, bringing about many changes to the core of Minecraft. As a result, there is a chance that plugins might break with this build. Even if that isn't the case, we have not completed work on API changes for 1.7 yet so future builds might still break plugins.
What is a Beta build?
A Beta Build is in between a developer build and a Recommended Build. These builds simply work and are promoted much more frequently than a Recommended Build. While we will do some testing before promoting a beta build, we will not be running it through our extensive test process. As such,...
We are currently experiencing issues with one of our servers.
This downtime affects the following services:
jd.bukkit.org
dl.bukkit.org
Minecraft Account Association
Curse Account Association
certain aspects of forums login (now resolved)
plugins.bukkit.org
I am working towards a speedy resolution, but cannot at present provide an estimated timeframe for the restoration of the listed services.
Services unaffected include the forums, repo.bukkit.org and BukkitDev.
Thank you for your patience.
Services are coming back online. I will continue monitoring the situation as it normalises.
All services appear to be stable and running normally. Sorry for the downtime!
Technical writeup:
The initial downtime appears to have been caused by the interaction of a cronjob and a reaper script designed to clean up after some runaway processes that occasionally execute. The end result was that an incorrect pkill command was executed (as root), which lead...
