A lot of work has gone into building this community we've all grown to know and love but it hasn't been without its problems and issues. From time to time we're met with the unavoidable need to make a difficult decision in order to preserve the friendly, welcoming and mature environment we've carefully crafted together over the many months the Bukkit project has been around.

I am one of those people who places great value on constructive criticism and freedom of speech, so it is very disheartening for me to have to make a decision that goes against those principles but sometimes these types of decisions are necessary. Lately we've been seeing an increase in the amount of unacceptable content from several of our community members, both valued & respected and general members. While I'd like for us to be open and flexible as much as we can, there will always be a line that needs to be drawn at some point and, for some people, we've reached it.

It does not matter who you are or what...

As I'm sure we're all aware, Mojang have adopted a new development and distribution model for Minecraft since around 1.8 was in development: pre-release builds. Though it really goes without saying, I'd like to make Bukkit's stance clear on these and other experimental builds:

At this point in time, Bukkit will not be supporting any build that is not an official update for Minecraft released by Mojang. If Mojang don't feel that they can recommend and stand by the builds they've released, then what makes you think we can recommend them either?

Keeping up with pre-release builds is an unrealistic feat. With each Minecraft update released we need to rewrite a large portion of CraftBukkit in order to make our work compatible with the Minecraft update. As it stands, the amount of work it would require to update our work for every pre-release is not worth it, especially if that work becomes outdated within two weeks or so.

Thanks for your support and understanding in this matter.

A new CraftBukkit Recommended Build (#1185) with Minecraft 1.8.1 support is now available. Along with support for Minecraft 1.8.1, this new build contains several new API additions and some bugfixes. Please note: for those of you who are considering generating a new world for Minecraft 1.8, please remember that you will likely have to do the same for Minecraft 1.9.

Will plugins break with this build?
Provided the developers of the plugins you are using are keeping up with the development of Bukkit, all your plugins should work fine.

For more detailed information on what is contained in this update, please see the Recommended Build announcement thread here:

BukkitDev is the missing link in the project management chain prevalent in the Minecraft community. The popular solution of making use of forum software - something designed specifically for single-threaded discussion - leaves developers painfully scavenging through threads made up of hundreds of pages simply to get to that one bug report you finally addressed. It is all very tedious and time-consuming; time lost that could be better spent doing what you love - bringing to life those mad, awesome ideas you have running around in your head. With BukkitDev, each project has their own mini-community and tools that developers are free to moderate and make use of; per-project issue trackers and forums are just a few of the advantages BukkitDev has over using a traditional forum based solution.

As detailed below, BukkitDev provides you with a complete project management solution that makes maintaining and updating your project a breeze. While many of...
