We got to visit Mojang in Sweden!

For those of you who want to hear what we did in Sweden, read on. For those of you who just want to know what this means for Bukkit and Minecraft, skip to the end.

This past weekend Bukkit went on a trip to visit Mojang in Stockholm, Sweden and we had a blast. Dinnerbone and myself arrived pretty late in Sweden so we were almost certain no one would be at the Mojang HQ, but to our surprise the place was packed with employees hard at work getting their new game, Cobalt, out instead of tearing each other apart in their usual Friday game nights. Tahg had the earliest flight out of the four of us, so he got to spend the whole day with Mojang and got to share a juicy steak with them in between the craziness accompanying a game launch.

It was really exhilarating being a part of Cobalt's launch and actually physically being there as it happened - the energy coming...

About one month ago we asked you, the community, for individuals to step forward to offer their time to help the community, and/or help maintain the BukkitDev system. We've had an overwhelming response to this call which just goes to show the dedication of the community. Since then, we've added 6 new faces to our staff and we're at the point where we feel we have enough for now.

However, our application process is an open-ended system, and whenever we need new staff we will be looking through applications received for those willing and able. So if you feel you would be willing to help, you are welcome to submit your application now, or at any time in the future.

We'd like to thank you for your show of support for this community, as it does make us proud to have so many willing volunteers. So thank you, and we look forward to working with some of you in the future.

We've finally setup an oft-requested system for people to get alerts whenever we promote a new Recommended Build. We used to use XenForo's alert system to send an alert out to all the Plugin Developers, but have since discontinued that system and found that it could not handle the load.

Simply subscribe to this Google Group and you'll get emails whenever we promote a new build informing you of a new RB:
http://groups.google.com/group/bukkit_announce

We hope this makes it easier for you Server Admins to keep on top of our updates (and possibly other announcements).

A new CraftBukkit Recommended Build (1.0.1-R1) with Minecraft 1.0.1 support is now available. This build contains some API additions, but is mostly a stable Minecraft 1.0.1 compatible CraftBukkit. We'll most likely have another RB in the near future with new things for developers to play with.

As always, please backup your server before updating, just in case. Please note: for those of you who are considering generating a new world for Minecraft 1.0.1, one of the newer snapshot builds for Minecraft contains tweaks to the world generator that could mean you may have to regenerate your world or only new chunks will see the tweaks in effect.

Will plugins break with this build?
Provided the developers of the plugins you are using are keeping up with the development of Bukkit, all your plugins should work fine.

For more detailed information on what is contained in this update, please see the Recommended Build announcement thread here:
